DUBUQUE, Iowa – August 8, 2025 – The City of Dubuque is gearing up for its November city council election, with the candidate filing period set to begin on Monday, August 11, and run through Thursday, August 28.

Residents interested in running for Mayor, At-Large Representative, Ward One Representative, or Ward Three Representative can file their nomination papers during this period. Detailed ward maps and additional election information are available at http://www.cityofdubuque.org/wards.

The general election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4. If any position attracts more than two candidates, a primary election will take place on Tuesday, October 7, to narrow the field.

Nomination papers can be downloaded from the Dubuque County Elections Office website or obtained directly from the Dubuque City Clerk’s Office, either in person or by emailing ctyclerk@cityofdubuque.org. Completed nomination papers must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 50 W. 13th St., by 5 p.m. on August 28. The office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
