
APPLE RIVER, IL – On Thursday, July 17, 2025, at approximately 1:58 p.m., a serious ATV rollover crash occurred on an ATV trail near the intersection of Flintlock Lane and Powder Horne Lane in Apple Canyon Lake, rural Apple River, Illinois, resulting in injuries to four of the seven occupants. The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the incident.
According to authorities, the crash was reported via a radio call from Apple Canyon Lake Security to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center. Deputies responding to the scene determined that the ATV, driven by Nan E. Ryan, 34, of Genoa, Illinois, was traveling at an unsafe speed while navigating a downhill curve on the trail. Ryan lost control, causing the vehicle to swerve, roll at least once, strike a tree, and come to rest on its side.
The ATV was carrying seven occupants, all from Genoa, Illinois: Nan E. Ryan (34), Emma L. Risley (32), Alexis A. Beery (31), Kendall P. Mackey (31), Meaghan K. Cleinmark (35), Alexandra B. Hamm (31), and Allison J. Janusz (37). Ryan, Beery, and Janusz refused medical treatment at the scene. Risley was transported by Stockton Ambulance Service to Freeport Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Mackey was taken by Warren Ambulance to Monroe Hospital. Cleinmark and Hamm sustained more severe injuries and were airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois, by AirCare 3 and Life Flight, respectively.
The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Apple Canyon Lake Security, Scales Mound Fire Department, Warren Area EMS, Elizabeth EMS, and Stockton Ambulance. No charges have been reported at this time, and the crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
