Guttenberg, IA – The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the body recovered from the Mississippi River on July 12th, 2025, is that of 41-year-old Neven Soknic, who was reported missing on July 9th, 2025. Soknic’s body was discovered by fishermen north of the Cassville ferry landing.

According to authorities, Soknic was last seen on July 7th, 2025, near the Turkey River Mound State Preserve on Estes Point Road in rural Guttenberg, IA. A search effort was launched after his vehicle was found abandoned near the preserve on July 9th, 2025.
The cause and manner of death remain under investigation, with authorities awaiting toxicology results from the autopsy performed by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office. At this time, foul play is not suspected.
The Clayton County Sheriff’s Office and Waterloo Police Department appreciate the public’s assistance in the search for Soknic and have thanked those who provided tips and support during the investigation.
The case remains under investigation.
