A 34-year-old man from Asbury, Iowa, has been sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for distributing child pornography. Christopher Charles Smith pleaded guilty on January 3, 2025, after admitting to trading child pornography through a messaging service.

According to court records, Smith distributed three videos of child pornography to an undercover law enforcement officer in October 2022. He was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams in Cedar Rapids on June 30, 2025.

In addition to his prison term, Smith will serve an 8-year term of supervised release. He is being held in the United States Marshal’s custody pending transport to a federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick J. Reinert. It was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
