A tense standoff between law enforcement and a barricaded subject with a hostage ended peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2025, in the Platteville Township.

At approximately 10:01 AM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a male subject armed with a hammer breaking a window and entering a residence at 5215 Classic Ln, Lot 13 (Oak Park Trailer Park).

Officers from the Platteville Police Department and UW-Platteville Police Department responded to the scene and located the suspect and two others in a black truck a few doors down.

After a series of events, law enforcement encountered a male subject holding a large knife inside a trailer home at lot 4. The individual, later identified as Jonathan Blaser, 34, of Shullsburg, barricaded himself inside the residence with a female hostage.

Law enforcement negotiated with Blaser for approximately two hours before deploying OC spray and a Taser to subdue him. Blaser was taken into custody and transported to the Grant County Jail.

Blaser was booked on charges of Burglary, False Imprisonment, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Damage to Property, and Resisting Arrest.

During the incident, another male, Dustin P. Yanochik, 33, of Dodgeville, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Platteville Police Department, UW-Platteville Police, Southwest Health Center, and K9 Riggs.
