
Dubuque, IA – On June 1, 2025, at 1:12 AM, the Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a fire on the back deck of a residence at 1707 South Grandview Ave. The Dubuque Fire Department responded within 30 seconds, deploying Battalion 1, Truck 4, Medic 1, Engine 1, Engine 5, Truck 1, and Engine 6, totaling 14 firefighters.
Engine 5 arrived within four minutes, encountering a fully involved deck fire. Battalion 1 established Grandview Command. Engine 5 deployed a hose line to combat the exterior blaze, while Truck 1 confirmed all occupants had safely evacuated. Engine 5 connected to a hydrant, and Truck 4 and Medic 1 checked for fire extension inside the building. The exterior fire was extinguished within 10 minutes by Engine 5 and Engine 1 crews. Light smoke damage was reported inside the apartments, with no fire damage. Fire was later found in a parapet wall and flat roof, which Truck 1 accessed to extinguish remaining spot fires.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Red Cross assisted two displaced families with temporary housing. All occupants and pets were unharmed, with no injuries to responders. Estimated property loss is $60,000.
The Dubuque Police Department provided on-scene support.
