Scales Mound, IL – A single-vehicle traffic crash on North Ford Road, approximately one-tenth of a mile south of West Kelly Road, resulted in injuries and the arrest of the driver on April 11, 2025.

The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a call regarding the incident at 2:02 P.M. Upon arrival at the rural Scales Mound location, deputies determined that Carter J Link, 29, of Dubuque, Iowa, was driving a 2022 Ford Transit van northbound on North Ford Road.

According to the investigation, Link allegedly failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, leading to a loss of control of the vehicle. The van then left the road, collided with a culvert, and came to a stop after striking several trees.

Galena EMS provided on-scene treatment to Link before transporting him to Midwest Medical Center in Galena for further medical attention.

As a result of the investigation, Carter J Link was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Link is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Assisting agencies at the scene included Galena EMS, the Scales Mound Fire Department, and Guy’s Towing.
