MAQUOKETA, IA – April 1, 2025 – The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred earlier today following a reported break-in attempt at a rural residence near Maquoketa.
According to a press release issued by Sheriff Brent J Kilburg, the Jackson County Law Center Dispatch received a 911 call at 12:14 PM from a resident reporting the incident. While deputies were en route, the dropped 911 call resumed, and it was revealed that an individual had been shot during the altercation.
Upon arrival at the residence, deputies discovered an adult male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The injured individual was treated at the scene before being airlifted to Iowa City for medical attention due to the seriousness of their injuries.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Sheriff Kilburg stated in the release that authorities believe there is “no current or ongoing safety threat to the immediate area or extended community.”
