After passing both the Senate and House a hands-free driving bill is headed to Governor Reynolds, a big supporter of this bill that will require drivers to use Bluetooth and other hands-free devices while on their phones while driving will be sign into law.

As of July 1, 2025, Iowa’s new ‘hands-free’ law prohibits drivers from using cellphones while driving unless in hands-free mode. Violations incur a $100 fine, with increased penalties, including a $500 fine and potential license suspension, if the violation results in serious injury. Exceptions allow device use when the vehicle is fully stopped, and certain professionals, such as public safety officials and healthcare workers, are exempt.
