Grant County Wisconsin – On March 21st at approximately 11:27 am, the Potosi Sheriff’s Office responded to a crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 35/61 and County Highway B in Potosi Township.

Gerald Harper, an 84-year-old resident of Potosi, was driving his 2015 Chevy Silverado westbound on County B. At the intersection, he stopped at the stop sign, intending to turn left and head south on Highway 35/61.

Michael Lineberry, a 44-year-old resident of Westby, Wisconsin, was operating a 1999 Peterbilt semi truck northbound on Highway 35/61, hauling an empty flatbed trailer. Harper failed to notice the approaching semi and directly entered the intersection, colliding with Lineberry’s pickup truck.

Lineberry attempted to brake and swerve left, but the collision was unavoidable. The front passenger side corner of the semi truck struck the front driver’s side corner of the pickup truck. The semi truck then veered off the roadway, entered a ditch, and partially overturned before coming to a stop. The pickup truck remained on the roadway, just off the intersection, and came to a rest.

Both Lineberry and Harper were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Lineberry was evaluated at the scene by Potosi EMS and declined transport. Harper was transported via ambulance to Grant Regional Health Center.

Both the semi-truck and the pickup truck sustained significant damage in the crash.

Harper was cited for Failure to Yield Right of Way from a Stop Sign after a semi truck and trailer crashed on Highway 35/61, causing damage and requiring a 4-hour partial shutdown for investigation and removal.

The Grant County Highway Department, Potosi Fire and EMS, Bennett’s Towing/Automotive Service, and La Farge Truck Center assisted at the scene.
