Des Moines, Iowa, will host the 18th annual state archery tournament from February 28 to March 2 at the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center (Bullseye) and the 4H Building (3D) within the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Approximately 2,200 students from over 140 schools across the state will participate in this prestigious event, making it the largest youth archery tournament in Iowa.

Since its inception in 2006, Iowa’s participation in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) has witnessed remarkable growth, with over 4,800 participants in 2025.

Zach Benttine, the archery coordinator for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, highlighted the significance of NASP, emphasizing its role in fostering discipline, focus, and perseverance among students of varying skill levels. Beyond promoting physical activity, NASP also contributes to the development of confidence, personal growth, and an appreciation for the sport of archery.

The tournament commences on Friday at 5 p.m., with the bullseye and 3D competitions resuming at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Each day will feature 50 targets set up for the bullseye competition, accommodating 100 participants simultaneously. Additionally, there will be 30 targets for the 3D competition, allowing 60 participants to participate.

Admission to the tournament is $5 for individuals aged 19 and above, while students aged 18 and below will enjoy free entry.

Archers participating in the tournament have the opportunity to win college cash prizes and valuable equipment.

Archers participating in the Iowa Archery in the Schools Program can earn money for college. Over $10,000 in college scholarships will be awarded based on their performance at the state tournament.

Additionally, archers who excel academically, write compelling essays, and meet other established criteria will receive an extra $13,000 outside of the state competition.

Furthermore, teams that place at the state tournament will be eligible for an estimated $18,000 in equipment for their schools.

These scholarships are provided by various organizations, including the Iowa Hunter Education Instructor Association, Pheasants Forever/Quail Forever, Whitetails Unlimited, the Iowa Bowhunters Association, Safari Club International, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Haney Family Foundation, Chuck Hallier Memorial, and the National Archery in the Schools Program.
