…EXTREME COLD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT
THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING…
* WHAT…For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 20 to 25 below expected. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 to 35 below possible.
* WHERE…Portions of north central and northwest Illinois and east central and northeast Iowa.
* WHEN…For the Cold Weather Advisory, from midnight tonight to 11
AM CST Monday. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from late Monday night
through Tuesday morning.
* IMPACTS…The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite
on exposed skin in 20 minutes or less. Frostbite and hypothermia
will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
