
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at around 12:30 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a semi-tractor trailer fire on USH 61, just south of Airport Road in South Lancaster Township.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered that Michael A. Cimpher, a 58-year-old resident of Potosi, was driving north on USH 61 when the 2017 Western Star Semi Tractor owned by Town and Country Sanitation caught fire near the right front tire. Fortunately, Cimpher managed to pull the vehicle to the shoulder and exit the truck without sustaining any injuries. However, the truck was declared a total loss, while the trailer remained undamaged.
As a result of the incident, traffic in both directions on USH 61 was initially rerouted for approximately 40 minutes until the fire was extinguished. Subsequently, the northbound lane remained closed for around 2.5 hours until the tractor-trailer was safely removed from the road.
