On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 8:07 PM, the Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a resident reporting a garage fire next to his home. Despite applying a fire extinguisher, the fire spread rapidly. The Dubuque Fire Department promptly dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene.
Upon arrival, the first unit, Command 528, quickly assessed the situation and reported flames emanating from a detached garage. Incident command was established, and a fire hose was charged with water and directed at the flames. Crews then advanced another hose to the second floor to extinguish the fire.
Due to heavy smoke conditions inside the garage, crews used a fan to disperse the smoke. They thoroughly searched the garage to ensure that all the fire had been extinguished. The Assistant Fire Marshal later determined that the fire was accidental, caused by an unattended wood-burning stove.
The garage sustained significant fire damage, resulting in estimated losses of $7,300.
The Dubuque Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Dubuque Police Department. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries to the responders.
