According to the Dubuque Police Department, officers responded to the 800 block of Alpine, at approximately 11:50 a.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 24, to a complaint of a 16-year-old who may have a gun and was looking for him or her who was called in.
Upon arrival, the teen fled on foot upon contact with officers. During the incident, the suspect displayed a knife and then charged the officers. One of them fired a Taser that missed, and then the two officers fired their duty weapons.
The officers rendered medical treatment on the suspect, who was transported to the hospital with injuries to his arm and shoulder.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations is investigating the incident.
The 16-year-old is now facing several charges stemming from the incident, which marked the first officer-involved shooting in Dubuque in 15 years. These charges include:
– Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations – Use/Display Dangerous Weapon
– Interference With Official Acts with a Dangerous Weapon
– Assault on a Dubuque Police Officer
– Resisting/Obstructing officers
