On Tuesday, December 24, at approximately 11:50 a.m., the Dubuque Police Department responded to a report of a 16-year-old individual with outstanding warrants at the 800 block of Alpine Avenue. Upon contact with officers, the suspect fled on foot.

During the incident, the suspect brandished a knife. Two officers discharged their duty weapons in response.

Medical treatment was administered to the suspect, who was subsequently transported to the hospital for injuries to his arm and shoulder.

The public is not at risk from this incident. As standard department protocol, the two officers involved in the shooting have been placed on critical incident leave. The Dubuque Police Department has requested that the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations conduct an investigation into the incident.
