FENNIMORE, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved critical incident that occurred in the City of Fennimore, Grant County, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Early that afternoon, Fennimore Police Department officers took an adult male subject into custody at a residence in the 1500 block of 2nd Street in Fennimore. The subject sustained self-inflicted injuries from an edged weapon while in police custody. Law enforcement did not use lethal force.
Immediately after the incident, law enforcement rendered aid to the subject, who was then taken to a local hospital and subsequently flown to a La Crosse County hospital, where they remain. Thankfully, no other individuals were injured during this incident.
The involved officer is currently on administrative duty, as per agency policy. All involved law enforcement officers were wearing body cameras during the incident.
The DCI is leading this investigation, with the La Crosse Police Department and the Grant County District Attorney’s offices cooperating fully. The Wisconsin State Patrol is also assisting in the investigation.
The DCI is carefully reviewing evidence and will submit the investigative reports to the Grant County District Attorney’s office once the investigation is complete.
