On November 11, 2024, at 5:46 AM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a disturbance at 6090 Southwest Lane in Platteville Township. The victim reported that she was physically assaulted by Gerald Moon, 50, of Platteville.

The Platteville Police Department and UW-Platteville Police Department were called to assist the Grant County Sheriff’s Office at the scene. Moon fled the residence on foot and entered a nearby creek. Officers found Moon standing in waist-high water and gave him several orders to exit the creek, which he ignored. Due to Moon’s refusal to comply, officers deployed OC spray. Eventually, officers were able to gain control of Moon’s arm and remove him from the creek. Moon continued to resist arrest but was eventually secured in handcuffs and transported to the Grant County Jail.

Case reports will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office with the recommendation that Moon be charged with Battery, Disorderly Conduct, Resisting or Obstructing an Officer, Strangulation or Suffocation, and Bail Jumping.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Platteville Police Department, UW-Platteville Police Department, and Southwest Health EMS.
