An arrest is not a admission of guilt and all arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

In the early hours of October 26th, 2024, Dubuque Police responded to a stabbing incident near 9th and Main Streets. At approximately 2:04 a.m., officers arrived at the scene to find 21-year-old Hunter Guyon of Dubuque with serious injuries.

The investigation revealed that Guyon and several companions were walking on Main Street when a vehicle approached, leading to a verbal altercation between the vehicle’s occupants and Guyon’s group. Although the vehicle initially drove away, it returned and stopped near 9th and Main Streets. The passenger exited the vehicle and stabbed Guyon in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.

Utilizing traffic camera footage, officers obtained a detailed description of the suspect. The vehicle was later found outside a bar in East Dubuque. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Gabriel Dominguez of Sherrill, IA, was apprehended along with the driver, 22-year-old Scott Wessels of Dubuque.

Dominguez faces charges of Attempted Murder and Going Armed with Intent, while Wessels is charged with Accessory After the Fact (felony). Both suspects were arrested in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, and were awaiting extradition to Dubuque.

Extradition Process

The extradition process began shortly after their arrest. Extradition between states in the U.S. is governed by the Extradition Clause of the U.S. 

After the necessary paperwork was completed and approved, Dominguez and Wessels were transported back to Dubuque Iowa .

Dominguez is out of jail on a $25,000.00 cash bond. Wessels was released on a $10,000.00 bond.
