Location: N Ferry Landing Rd at West Cross Rd, Galena, IL 61036

On October 2, 2024, at approximately 4:56 P.M., the Jo Daviess County dispatch center received a report of a traffic crash with injuries at the intersection of N Ferry Landing Rd and West Cross Rd in rural Galena, IL. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that Darrin M. Plowman 36, of Brooklyn Iowa was driving a 2000 Buick Century northeast on N Ferry Landing Rd. Plowman lost control of the vehicle at the intersection, causing it to veer into a ditch on the north side. The vehicle descended a steep embankment and collided with large rocks, coming to a stop.

Plowman was transported by Galena EMS to Midwest Medical Center in Galena and was later airlifted by AirCare 3 to the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City for further treatment of his injuries. He was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving with a suspended driver’s license.

This traffic crash remains under investigation by the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. Plowman is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
