On the evening of September 2, 2024, the Platteville Police were notified that two individuals had discovered what they suspected to be human remains in a densely forested area of the city. Officers responded to the scene and found an unidentified deceased person.

They secured the area and called for help from the Wisconsin Department of Forensic Sciences, Crime Scene Response Unit (CSRU). The CSRU team arrived on the morning of September 3, 2024, to assist the Platteville police in examining the scene and recovering the remains.

The Platteville Police Department is working to identify the deceased and investigating the circumstances surrounding their death.
