A motorcycle accident on Saturday evening in Jo Daviess County left a Galena man with serious injuries.

According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff, the incident occurred just before 7 PM on South Blanding Road near Hanover.

Authorities reported that 30-year-old Matthew Steele was riding his motorcycle too fast around a curve, causing him to lose control and crash into a ditch, with the motorcycle landing on top of him. Steele was airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford for treatment.

The Sheriff also noted that Steele was driving under the influence of alcohol and had an expired registration
