On 07/13/2024, a motorcycle collided with a truck on the Hwy 151 exit 8 overpass in the Village of Dickeyville, as reported to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

Gary Helbing, 62, was riding his orange 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Highway 61 when Earl Ludwig, 72, in a red 2013 Ford F150, pulled out into Helbing’s path from the off ramp, resulting in a collision. Despite Helbing’s efforts to avoid the crash, he hit the driver’s side of Ludwig’s truck and suffered severe injuries, needing assistance from witnesses at the scene before being taken to the hospital.

While Helbing’s motorcycle was heavily damaged and had to be towed, Ludwig’s truck was still drivable. Ludwig was cited for failure to yield at a stop sign causing injury and for not having his vehicle registered.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from various emergency services at the scene.
