Garland Ventures is recalling approximately 13,842 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken fried rice products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall was issued by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on Friday, November 10.

The product, produced on Friday, Nov. 10, that is affected by this recall is “CHICKEN FRIED RICE DICED CHICKEN MEAT WITH VEGETABLES AND RICE IN A SAVORY SOY SAUCE” under the Freshness Guaranteed brand. The affected lot code is WK10CFR, with a best if used by date of 11/10/2024. This specific product was shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The recalled packages bear the establishment number “EST. P-31993” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Consumers are advised to discard or return any affected products to the store where they were purchased.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause life-threatening illnesses in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Listeria monocytogenes can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

FSIS advises consumers who have purchased these products to follow the guidance of your healthcare provider.
