Location: USH 18 just west of Rice Road

Incident Details:

Grant County Dispatch received a call regarding a one vehicle crash on USH 18 just west of Rice Road. A deputy responded to the scene and met with the driver of the vehicle, Rylee Groom, age 20 of Mount Hope.

Rylee reported that she had been eastbound in a 2020 VW Tiguan when she lost control of her vehicle and entered the south ditch. Upon impact, the vehicle struck a box culvert and sustained disabling damage.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that both rear tires on the VW had less than 2/32 inch of tread depth. This inadequate tire tread depth is believed to have contributed to the cause of the crash. Rylee was not injured in the crash and she had been wearing her seatbelt.

Rylee was subsequently cited for Failure to Maintain Control of Vehicle and for the equipment issue involving the tire tread depth.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Terry’s Towing of Boscobel in removing the damaged vehicle from the scene.
