
Drug Sentences
A recently passed law provides stricter sentencing for people dealing with fentanyl and opioid drugs.
A person can now be sentenced to 50 years in prison for having 50 grams of fentanyl and a million-dollar fine.
The law triples sentences for those convicted of killing someone they sold drugs to.
Child Labor Laws
16-year-olds and 17-year-olds will be able to work until 11:00 PM during the summer and until 9:00 PM during the school year. They will be able to serve alcohol and do manufacturing jobs with the required training.
Education Laws
A recently passed education law restricting gender identity teaching goes into effect for grades kindergarten through 6th grade. It also bans books with sexually explicit material in school libraries, which comes into effect in January 2024.
Superintendents can face action for not following the enacted law.
Iowa Election Laws
You will have to attend your caucus. Voting by mail will no longer be allowed in Iowa.
