Timothy Schmitt, 28, took a plea deal on June 13th. In court, he pleaded guilty to charges of using a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime and reckless use of a firearm causing damage, both aggravated misdemeanors. Judge Mark Hostager sentenced him on June 23rd to two years of probation. The charge for criminal mischief in the second degree, a class D felony were dropped as a result of his plea.
An order of protection was imposed on the victim and he became ineligible to own a gun.
The charges against him were brought to Dubuque after he was arrested in Clayton County, Iowa in December 2022 on a warrant.
It was captured on video showing Schmitt shooting out of the windows of vehicles.
