Members of the public are invited to attend a free public lecture and panel discussion in the Loras College Library, 3rd floor Atrium, 5:00pm-6:30pm, Monday March 27th. Mr. Alexander Kuzma is the Chief Development Officer for the Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation (UCUF). A lawyer by training for 15 years, Mr. Kuzma served as Development Director for the Children of Chernobyl Relief Fund, an organization that provided millions of dollars in medical equipment, hospital supplies, and training for hospitals in Ukraine. Since 2010 he has served as the Chief Development Officer for the Ukrainian Catholic University Foundation. UCU is the only Catholic university in the former Soviet Union and is widely considered to be the finest university in Ukraine. Mr. Kuzma will be giving a brief history of Ukraine’s struggles for independence, the history of WWII adversaries becoming allies, and the spirit of Ukrainians as independent but peaceful people. He will touch on topics like Just War principles for rights of self defense, the tension between Catholic principles of non-violence while engaging in a defensive war, post-conflict community rebuilding, and the warning signs which he believes are relevant to Americans.
Panelists will include Dr. David Chochran, Professor of Politics at Loras College, Dr. Lisa Garouette, Professor of Sociology at Loras College, and Dr. H. Theixos, Professor of Philosophy at Loras College.
