On 03/06/2023 at approximately 3:47 PM, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a single vehicle accident near U.S. Route 20 W, just west of IL Route 84 N in rural Galena, IL. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that Maria G. Amezquita Rodriguez, 34, of Addison, IL, was traveling eastbound on Route 20 West. At the merge of the four lanes, she lost control of her vehicle and began to skid. Amezquita Rodriguez then overcorrected and crossed into the median before ultimately rolling her vehicle multiple times. She was transported from the scene to Mercy Hospital for injuries sustained in the accident. A juvenile passenger in her vehicle was transported to Midwest Medical Center and then to UW-Madison Hospital for treatment of injuries. 

This accident remains under investigation by the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police traffic crash reconstruction unit. There may be additional information released later.
