The Platteville Police Department responded to Super 8 Hotel at approximately 8:30 a.m. on December 19th for a report of a patron making threats to staff and guests. Platteville Officers arrived and attempted to make contact with the individual, identified as Hywel Bowman, age 24 from Madison. Officers discovered that Bowman had barricaded himself inside a hotel room and had damaged property. Bowman continued to issue threats to harm officers and others and refused to leave the property. The Southwest Emergency Response Team, along with their negotiations team, arrived on scene to assist. Negotiations continued for four hours before entry was made into the hotel room. Bowman was then taken into custody without incident.

Bowman was transported by Southwest Health Emergency Services to Southwest Health for medical clearance. Bowman was then transported to the Grant County Jail. Charges are pending.

On scene were the UW-Platteville Police Department, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Southwest Emergency Response Team, Grant County Emergency Management, and Southwest Health EMS.
