On October 18, 2022, at approximately 9:11 pm, Grant County Deputies responded to 17129 County Road T for a rollover crash in the Township of Watterstown.

Chase Lee Smith, age 22 of Blue River, Wisconsin, was operating a black, 2008 Ford Taurus and was traveling northbound on County Road T. With Smith in the vehicle were three juvenile passengers. Smith was negotiating a curve on the roadway when his vehicle experienced a mechanical issue. As a result, Smith lost control of the vehicle. The Smith vehicle traveled off the roadway before rolling over multiple times and coming to a stop on top of round bales in a nearby field. One of the vehicle’s occupants had been ejected as a result of the crash. All four occupants of the vehicle were transported by EMS to the Boscobel Gunderson Emergency Room due to their injuries.

Smith was placed arrested at the Boscobel Gunderson Hospital for Operating with a Restricted Controlled Substance 1st Offense Causing Injury. Smith will be issued further citations as a result of the crash. At this time, the case remains under further investigation.

Grant County was assisted by Boscobel EMS and Fire Department, Blue River EMS, Fennimore EMS, and Terry’s Tire and Tow.

Persons arrested/or referred to charges by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. An arrest is only an indication that probable cause exists to bring formal charges. The names of victims and witnesses to a crime have been withheld in accordance with §950.0
