On August 1, 2022, at approximately 6:28am, the Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle vs. building crash at the south end of Washington Street in the city of Cuba City. The driver was not around.

After further investigation, it was learned Shane D. Lawrence (35) of Benton was the driver of the vehicle. The crash had happened in the early morning hours and was not reported. Lawrence stated he looked down at his phone and when he looked up, he was unable to make the left turn. The 2016 Chevrolet Equinox continued straight and crashed into a commercial building owned by Josh Blackbourn. The Equinox sustained heavy damage. The building was also heavily damaged. Police cited Lawrence for failure to notify police of a crash.
