On June 29, 2022, at about 7:48 AM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call of a two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a car on Hwy 61 near Peer Rd, south of Boscobel, WI. The Sheriff’s Office received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting it was a serious crash.

The investigating deputies learned that Jeremy Cook, 47, of Dubuque, IA was driving a 2021 Freightliner semi with an empty flatbed trailer going south on Hwy 61 just south of Peer Rd. At the same time, Nathan Williams, age 33 of rural Glen Haven, was operating his 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix going north on Hwy 61 just north of Old 61 Rd. with his toddler son in the back seat. The truck and the car collided when the car crossed the center line at a curve in the road. This caused the truck to come to rest in the middle of the highway, and the car came to rest on the west side of the road, just off the shoulder.

An ambulance transported the toddler to Gunderson Hospital in Boscobel. A short time latter, an ambulance transported Williams to Gunderson-Boscobel. Hospital staff observed and examined the toddler at the hospital. Williams died at the hospital. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured in the crash.

The investigation showed the toddler was in an appropriate child safety seat in the back seat of the car, while Williams appeared to have been unrestrained. The driver of the semi-truck was also wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, which is also being assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit.

The following agencies assisted the Grant County Sheriffs office
at the scene. The Boscobel Fire Department, Boscobel EMS, Fennimore EMS, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Grant County Highway Department.
