Last evening, the League of Women Voters held a forum at Dubuques Historical Federal Building last evening for March 2nds primary to fill the seat of Brad Cavanaugh, now Mayor. Moderator, Lisa Garoutte presented questions from the public. Five of the seven candidates were on hand for the Q and forum Tuesday night. The top two vote getters in the election moves on to a March 29th final election.
One of tonight’s questions from Lisa to the contenders had to deal with what 3 words describe the 4th ward.

Carl Anderson said diversification was one of her answers. The 4th ward has the largest populations of Marshallese, Hispanic and African-American citizens in the city. She all so spoke of the city’s lack of diversity on the council. Anderson all so stated the city needs to stand up for its first responders, putting more capital into our police department, fire department and housing, not wasting it on projects that waste cities’ capital. Anderson all so wants more enforcement of land lords for not keeping there properties up and taking advantage of tenants.

Hillary Dalton claimed its history. The Washington Street Neighborhood, is the oldest in our community. She all so wants to see affordable housing, improvements to parks in the city and protection of wild life. Dalton is promoting Inclusion and equity.
They all agreed on their availability and ability to listen to the people of the 4th ward making it a top priority and go above the call of duty to make it happen.
