Dubuque, Iowa – A 22-year-old Dubuque man faces multiple assault charges after an incident Thursday afternoon at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center, where authorities say he allegedly assaulted individuals in protected occupations. 

Devonte Christopher Smith, identified as a male born in approximately 2004, was arrested around 2:42 p.m. on May 7, 2026, at 250 Mercy Drive. He stands accused of the following charges:

•  Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations – Bodily Injury (Felony)

•  Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations – Bodily Injury (Misdemeanor)

•  Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations (Felony)

•  Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations (Misdemeanor)

•  Assault – General (Misdemeanor)

Officer or Deputy D. Brant is listed in connection with the arrest.
