Dickeyville, Wis. — A 79-year-old Union Grove man suffered potentially life-threatening injuries Thursday night after he exited his vehicle following a single-vehicle crash and was struck by another car on northbound U.S. Highway 151 at Hill Climb Road.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene shortly after 10:07 p.m. on March 27, 2026, following reports of a possible multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 151 and Hill Climb Road, just outside Dickeyville in southwestern Wisconsin.

According to investigators, Alan Hensiak was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup on Hill Climb Road and attempted to turn onto the northbound lanes of Highway 151. His vehicle struck a concrete barrier, coming to rest off the roadway. For reasons still under investigation, Hensiak then exited his truck and walked onto the active highway lanes.

Moments later, a 2016 GMC Yukon driven by 66-year-old Jeffrey Weigel of Platteville struck Hensiak with the vehicle’s side mirror and quarter panel. Weigel and his passengers were not injured.

Hensiak was initially transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later airlifted by medical helicopter to a hospital in Iowa City for advanced treatment.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, including the circumstances that led Hensiak to leave his vehicle and enter the highway. No charges have been announced at this time.

Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Dickeyville Fire and EMS, Jamestown Fire and First Responders, Platteville Police Department, UW-Platteville Police Department, and Donnie’s Tire and Tow of Dickeyville.

Authorities have not released additional details about road conditions, weather, or possible contributing factors such as impairment or distraction. The investigation remains active as deputies work to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
