Fentanyl Overdose Investigation Results in Homicide Charge

The Platteville Police Department announces the conclusion of a lengthy investigation into a fatal drug overdose that occurred on February 5, 2022, in the City of Platteville.

On that date, Platteville Police officers responded to a report of an unresponsive male at a local hotel. Officers discovered the victim, Dustin Dean, a 36-year-old male from Platteville, unresponsive. The Grant County Coroner responded and Dean was pronounced deceased. Subsequent investigation determined the cause of death to be a fentanyl overdose.

Following an extensive investigation conducted by the Platteville Police Department, in cooperation with the Grant County District Attorney’s Office, Tiffany Chandler, a 30-year-old female from Platteville, has been charged with First Degree Reckless Homicide in connection with Mr. Dean’s death. An arrest warrant has been issued for Chandler.

This case underscores the extreme dangers associated with fentanyl and other synthetic opioids, which continue to pose a significant threat to our community. The Platteville Police Department remains committed to investigating drug-related offenses and holding those responsible accountable, while also working with community partners to prevent future overdoses through education and enforcement.
