DUBUQUE, Iowa — With temperatures expected to reach the 90s and heat index values near or above 100 from Saturday, June 21, through Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the City of Dubuque has opened several public cooling centers to provide relief from the extreme heat.

Cooling Center Locations and Hours:

• Bunker Hill Golf Course Clubhouse, 2200 Bunker Hill Rd.: Daily, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

• Carnegie-Stout Public Library, 360 W. 11th St.: Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sunday, noon – 5 p.m.; Monday-Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m.

• Dubuque Intermodal Transportation Center Lobby, 950 Elm St.: Saturday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; Monday-Tuesday, 6:45 a.m. – 6:15 p.m.

• Dubuque Rescue Mission, 398 Main St.: Daily, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

• Dubuque Salvation Army, 1099 Iowa St.: Monday-Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

• Kennedy Mall (public areas), 555 John F. Kennedy Rd.: Saturday, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Monday-Tuesday, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.

• ImOn Ice Arena, 1800 Admiral Sheehy Dr.: Saturday-Sunday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Monday-Tuesday, 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.

• Multicultural Family Center, 1157 Central Ave.: Saturday, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.; Monday-Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.

• Petco, 2541 Northwest Arterial: Saturday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Monday-Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

• PetSmart, 1300 John F. Kennedy Rd.: Saturday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Monday-Tuesday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

City officials urge residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable groups such as seniors, young children, overweight individuals, those with chronic conditions, or people working outdoors. Safety Tips include:

• Check on others using a buddy system.

• Never leave people or pets in closed vehicles.

• Stay hydrated with water or rehydrating drinks; aim for light yellow urine.

• Replace salts with foods like bananas or sports drinks.

• Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, sunscreen, and hats.

• Stay in shaded or air-conditioned areas.

• Work slowly in heat and stop if feeling dizzy, nauseated, or weak.
