Grant County Wisconsin- On March 3, 2025, at approximately 6:34 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 35/61/81 at the intersection with Highway 129 south of Lancaster.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies encountered Randall Obrien, 55, of Benton, operating his 1982 Ford Econoline van southbound on Highway 129. Obrien had reportedly stopped at the intersection and turned to the left. He observed oncoming traffic from the south but mistakenly believed it was in the turning lane intended for northbound travel on Highway 129.
Obrien proceeded into the intersection, attempting to turn southbound on Highway 35/61/81. However, his vehicle collided with the driver’s side of a 2010 Chevrolet Colorado, which was being driven northbound by Kaia Kerkenbush, 16, of Potosi. Kerkenbush was not anticipating the collision.
Minor injuries were sustained by both occupants. Both vehicles were subsequently towed from the scene. Obrien was issued a citation for inattentive driving.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office received assistance at the scene from the Lancaster Police Department, Lancaster EMS, Lancaster Fire, Arrow Towing, and Bennett’s Towing.
