With a heavy heart and profound sadness, Grant County Sheriff Craig Reukauf announces the passing of Grant County Correctional Officer (Jailer) Dylan Bellamy. Tragically, Dylan succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, February 8, 2025, after being struck by a motor vehicle while walking along the highway near Mattoon, Illinois.

Dylan joined the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in December 2023, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to his role. Additionally, he served as a member of the Army National Guard, and he was in Illinois for his training weekend with his unit, which is based in Mattoon, Illinois. The circumstances leading up to the accident are still under investigation.

Dylan was a bright and promising young man with a bright future ahead of him. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family. To support our staff during this challenging period, we have activated our Peer Support Team, and a grief counselor is available to provide additional services.
