On Friday, January 17, 2025, at 3:27 PM, the Dubuque Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a citizen reporting a fire inside a neighboring residence. The Dubuque Fire Department promptly dispatched to the scene within 22 seconds of receiving the call.

Upon arrival, several individuals were attempting to evacuate pets from the home, but the occupancy status of the residence was uncertain. The initial responding units included Engine 502, Engine 503, Engine 505, Engine 506, Command 528, Medic 552, Medic 554, Ladder 511, and Ladder 512. The first unit, Engine 502, arrived within four minutes of dispatch reporting smoke emanating from the roof and visible fire. Command 528 assumed command of Amy Ct. Engine 502 deployed a hose line into the structure and secured a water supply from a nearby hydrant. The subsequent arriving companies provided fire attack, smoke removal, search and rescue, secured utilities, and deployed a backup line. Interior crews successfully extinguished the fire within 20 minutes of their arrival.

Fire department crews also cleared the residence of smoke, conducted salvage and overhaul operations, and confirmed the absence of any further fire extension.

The Assistant Fire Marshal determined that the fire was accidental and originated in the kitchen, near the stove within the residence. The home was deemed uninhabitable, and two occupants were relocated to safe accommodations. Estimated losses totaled $125,000. Two dogs were located and rescued by firefighters; one survived, while the other succumbed to the fire.
