On December 7th, 2024, at 12:34 A.M., the Grant County Dispatch Center received a crash detection notification from an Apple iPhone near the intersection of Stage Road and Abing Road in the Town of Potosi. A Deputy responded to the scene and located a 2014 Dodge Durango that had crashed and come to rest on its passenger side against a fence. The vehicle sustained moderate damage, and the occupants remained on the scene uninjured.

During the investigation, the Deputy learned that the driver, 21-year-old Desmond Miesen from Platteville, was traveling northbound on Stage Road when a deer appeared in the roadway. Miesen attempted to avoid a collision with the deer but lost control of the vehicle. Following standardized field sobriety tests conducted at the scene, Miesen was arrested for Operating While Under the Influence, 1st Offense. Arrow Towing from Lancaster assisted at the scene.

Persons arrested or referred for charges by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. An arrest only indicates probable cause exists to bring formal charges. The names of victims and witnesses to the crime have been withheld per Wisconsin Statute §950.04.
