On November 2, 2023, at approximately 12:38 p.m., Officer Nathan Auz was operating the Platteville Police Department’s 2018 Ford Explorer on N Elm Street. While driving, he noticed Ava Graney of Platteville approaching from the west on Jewett Street in her 2004 Saturn Ion. Graney came to a stop at the intersection stop sign of N Elm Street and Jewett.

To get a better view of the oncoming traffic, Graney had to pull forward slightly, so she could see around a bush. However, when she proceeded into the intersection, she forgot to check again for traffic coming from behind. As a result, Graney collided with the police squad car in the intersection, causing damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle. Following the incident, Officer Auz was transported by Southwest Health EMS to Southwest Health Center for potential injuries. Fortunately, Graney did not sustain any injuries in the crash. Both parties were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

Precision Towing of Platteville was called to the scene to remove both vehicles. Additionally, the Platteville Police Department provided assistance at the accident site.
