Dubuque may adopt speed camera enforcement
With officers retiring, the Dubuque Police Department is lacking officers to do daily traffic enforcement. To handle the problem, Chief Jensen will be asking the city to implement cameras for enforcement.
People ask if they’re legal?
The constitutionality of speed cameras depends on the specific laws and regulations of each jurisdiction. Generally, speed cameras are considered constitutional as long as they are implemented in a way that meets certain due process requirements. This includes providing clear notice of the violation and an opportunity for the accused to contest the citation.
In Iowa, speed cameras are legal and fines are collected by cities. You won’t lose your license or insurance coverage if you commit these violations.
How are fines enforced?
They can place a civil lien against your license plates, so when you try to renew your registration, the penalty can catch up to you there. So it’s best to just pay the fine on time.
