- Iowa is a rural area and County officers many times can’t be there to protect you, this includes Police Departments in Cities. Citizens can’t be prey to criminals. It’s common sense.
- To understand the 2nd amendment you have to understand the King’s English.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The king’s English states that a will regulated militia, and people have the right to bear arms. Not just a will regulated militia. The King’s English says the peoples have the right to.
- After all, Thomas Jefferson had written in the Declaration of Independence that if a government failed to protect its citizens and instead became the enemy, the citizens had the right to overthrow it! So one reason the citizens wanted to be armed was not just for defense against external enemies. They wanted protection from their government!
Noah Webster also believed that having an armed public would prevent the government from becoming corrupted because the people would have more power than the government itself. He wrote:
“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.”
- The Supreme Court ruled in a New York cases that citizens cannot be denied the right to carry weapons, and that any new cases would come to meet the strict scrutiny of the Federal Courts. That means that, anytime a law related to firearms is challenged in court, judges must apply the highest skepticism to the law’s goal and means. The doctrine that true knowledge or knowledge in a particular area. That’s the same goal for Iowas Constitution
Iowans know better, we believe in the Constitution and what our for forefathers to govern our great Nation.
